Hi Diane.
Just had to add my thoughts, I use any decoupage paper and its usually fine on my epson, the problem I have is when I try to use the cheap inks.......
I try to only use originals, I know they are more expensive but they last about 5 times longer, last week (when I was skint lol) I had no choice but to replace my pink with a compatible Ink I bought, its useless, all the colours run if the pinks are too intense and if they are lighter I end up with streaky lines plus, the new one is almost running out already!
My advice, dont worry about the paper too much, change the ink.
Nicky xx

Hi Nicky,
Thanks for popping in, I had wondered about the ink to be honest, I'm not working( I'm a carer for my little boy) so finances are always a bit tight lol to be honest though I'm pretty sure that when I was first printing off the sheets it was still the original inks, I could be wrong though, I get my inks for just over £4 for the full set which is soooo much cheaper than the originals, it's an expensive job this printing lark aint it. Anywya thanks again for popping in and it's now a case of trial and error, ho hum. Take care Diane xx

I have to agree, i only use real inks for my Epson, for me the quality was never there with the compatibles in colour lasting , they seemed to fade especially black and make the reds a little muddy sometimes......

I've only ever used original inks, and still had problems on the decoupage paper, both in a very good HP printer and now in a not as good Kodak printer :0(
I don't waste any money at all, sticking to photo paper.

I have compatibles in my new Epson and so far they are printing fine and the red is red not muddy brown as with my old Epson.

Check your graphics programs settings.
Are they in CMYK or RGB colours???
I find theres a difference and colours will look different ....all commercial printers prefer CMYK and most 'home' graphics programs use RGB.
You should be able to change your settings ...so if one is looking a bit off then try the other setting and see if it makes a difference.

If you print in RGB you will always get brighter colours because RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue whereas if you print in CMYK, these colours are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (key is Black) and when you add black the colours are much more smudgy looking when printed. Try it out on your computers, you will see the difference when you design something. Set your document to RGB, design your page and then change your setting to CMYK all the colours suddenly go dark and dingy and that is what will print.
As for the ink, I used to have an epson 1290 and always used compatible ink, but I always bought JETTEC. They were definitely the best that I found. Some compatible inks leak out into the printer, it is a nightmare when that happens. Now that I have an epson 1400 I cannot seem to get cheap ink for it. I definitely cannot get JETTEC and I don't really want to use anything else. I certainly didn't find the reds brown looking. The only colour that always looked the same was purple. The inks I use now are epson, but they are Claria Photographic inks and all the colours are great now especially on the coated matt paper. They look like velvet. Hope this helps

Yeah I already sussed the changing of colour format to RGB, to be honest I'm finding that now I'm not using the decoupage paper it's all going well, reds are red and not yucky brownish colours and the black isn't smudging, great news for me, well except for the £10 wasted on paper that is, but you live and learn. I will still buy the comaptible inks though , you can't complain when a full set of inks is only £4. I have noticed though that designers who use more pastel colours, their sheets print off fine for me on the decoupage paper, I reckon it's just that the ink used for brighter, stronger colours was causing the problem.
