I have no problem with that, i do it myself , it is nice to take something and then use it to your own style, at least that way not everyone has carbon copies of the same design..........

I like to see the way a card maker creates the card, we give the foundation and you build it.

I also love to see what ideas people come up with using my design as a base. I try to make card fronts & backgrounds for my step by step cards, but its personal choice if you want to use them. Its the same as putting lots of layers on a sheet, they are there if you need/want them, but they don't have to be used. Have fun, thats what crafting is all about!

Its great to see that people dont mind what others do with their sheets but......sorry to put a dampner on this
Those of you that use other peoples work, ie you don't create/draw/photo/paint an image 100% yourself, you need to know if you are allowed manipulation of the creators work.
If the original copyright holder says you have to use it as is, then you cant change it. So its always good to ask before doing anything.
Take the said vase of flowers with the original background, that xxxxxx put on a sheet. They may be using that like it is because the TOU of the photographer/artist etc says it can't be modified. So its fine for it to be used with that background. And the card designer has complied with that TOU.
Then someone buys the designer sheet and cuts out the background, puts in a different background, recolours the flowers in the vase......then that would be a violation of the Photographers TOU. It would be even worse if the person did the manipulation and used that image to design a sheet to put up for sale again.
As designers it would be assumed that they know the copyright information and the Terms of Use for images they use.
So it never hurts to ask I wouldn't think the designer if its Ok to change their images.

If someone sells images that can't be changed at all according to their TOU, then i won't be using them. For instance: if a designer sells an images that can be manipulated by me as a designer to create something but they say in their TOU that the 3rd party, the customer who buys my sheets, cannot manipulatet hem and have to use them the way as i haev made them, than I won't be using them.
If they sell them under the TOU that anything can be done with them and the only exception is they can't be sold as is, but have to be flattened into jpg. then I will be using them. I wanttour customers to be free in using our sheets without having any restrictions on how to use them.
It's the same as those companies selling decoupage sheets like Studio Light. They allow the customers to do what ever they want with them, the only exception is you can't sell cards made with Disney characters, Disney doesn't allow that.

Hiya
It is a nightmare finding CU images and clipart and then finding CU that actually means we can offer CU to our customers, without some tou that are just to strict, i guess it is to protect the brand, which is why i use my own images for the most part, that way whatever i create i have the right to use and let others use however i like.........
I think the Designer resources section here is supposed to give us a place to go for items that we can use in this way.....freely with little terms to restrict......i would love to see what a designer could do with a few petals from one of my flowers....

You are so right Astrid.
Glad someone reads the TOU
So many people dont read things then wonder why they get an email saying to remove things.
Its why I learned to do my own things so I could use them how I wanted.
I've had a lot of work misused, stolen, put up for sharing without people asking or using as my TOU state, and so have a lot of artists that we are now fighting back and either licencing work with agencys or totally withdrawing any permissions we did have. Shame some spoil it for so many.

Hi there,
Just to let you know, I create all my own artwork and have no problem with you, as a cardmaker, letting your imagination and creativity take over when designing your cards. If you only wish to use a part of the whole sheet that I have designed, then that's entirely up to you. If it has inspired you to make a particular card then GREAT! I, like so many other designers have said, am always astonished by the sort of cards that can end up coming out of my designs. So, for me anyway, go ahead and enjoy.
