Hi Mary, I had one many years ago but I didn't find it responsive enough for me. I find it much better to use the vector pen tools in Photoshop.

I have one and am very pleased with it. I allwasy use it to create step-by-step decoupage. You can zoom in and get real close to the edges and erase bits you want to leave out for the decoupage bits, remove the furtest layers on each new layer etc. You can do more precise work with it then you could ever do with a mouse.

hi Mary,

I use a cheap graphics pad 'Trust slimline' and I absolutely adore it.

It did take about 2 months to get the hang of using it, but I wouldn't be without it now.

I found it helped at first to hold the pen as close to the nip as possible, resting most of your hand on the pad, gave me more control over it.

I also did my drawings on a large scale using size 9 brush (12 ins or more), then went over the outline on another layer with a size 3 brush.

(The pencil produced to jagged an outline.)

Then I would reduce the image size to the correct size for print.

(I now use the freehand pen tool)

Thank you all for your answers

A Big thank you to you all for your reply's i have been thinking of getting one, as with the mouse and the pen tool i go all over the place. Perhaps it may be easier to use a pad instead. all the best from Mary.

Keep Smiling

Hiya, I have got one. I love it but it has taken me ages to get used to it, it is very sensative. The reason i got it is a work away quite a bit so I am not often at my desk to hand draw and scan in so i thought it was a different option that i could take that with me. I have perseveered with it because it was expensive i do love it now but to be honest, i prefer to hand draw and scan in to the computer.

Thanks

Hi Mary, I have a Bamboo by Wacom and I absolutely adore mine! I injured my shoulder in October and if wasn't for my drawing pad, which I can lay in my lap, I wouldn't be able to do a lot of my designing! I wouldn't be without one now!

I have a Wacom Graphire 4 and I am still getting used to it months after trying it. It sat on my desk for months before I really tried to do anything with it at first. They do take some getting used to and they are sensitive.

Its just perseverence .....and lots of practice lol

I had a very good tip when I first started using mine. Until you get used to the Pen, STOP using your Mouse! ONLY use your Pen. It will come a lot faster if you do it that way...use it for EVERYTHING! I'm not saying I have the Pen mastered by any means, but it sure made it faster to learn how to use the whole pad system!
