Thank you Gwyneth, once again. I had thought of p.m'ing you but didn't like to bother you. I shall print off your reply and go through it step by step later. I was sure that the problem had started after upgrading Irfanview but didn't know how to change the default and even when I browsed the options I couldn't find Silhouette. I've also emailed the support team so now I'd better let them know that you kind people on the Forum have responded with what looks like the solution! It's so annoying when you think you know what the problem is but don't know how to solve it without days of trial and error and the risk of wrecking something in the process.
