Good question. I have wondered why cutting files are in GSD, or other More difficult file formats. Why can they not be in jpeg or similar. With easier access to them. It would save a lot of manipulating/converting if they came in the more popular file formats!
PS. I am still having trouble converting files! "John the Technoprat!

I have just sent a Support request asking why I am unable to open the GSD files that I have bought on here. They all open in Irfanview but when I try to access the GSD files in the kits my computer can't read the file header. I'm sure I used to be able to open them but now impossible. I upgraded my Irfanview a few months ago and I think it is since then that I have had a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try? Like John I think I must be a Technoprat!
Shirley.

Shirley what version of robo master are you using? the upto date version is 5.1 and if you are below that then you won't be able to open them.. you will need to update or use the new studio software which will open gsd files too..

Hi Pat

If there is any of mine you want converted just shout I am happy to do for you... but as mine are very intricate I am rather surprised people would cut them by hand... On saying that there are some very talented ladies here which have already cut my deisgns by hand from PDF...

John

GSD is the format the CraftROBO used to use fulltime.. since then the new studio software is now available for all robo and sd users...

Thanks Tina. You are there for me as usual! I have tried several file converters, but as yet I am not having very much luck. I don't call myself a technoprat for nothing. It is very, very annoying, because I used to think I was pretty clued up on computing, but since I had those mini strokes I have actually forgotten most of it. I used to be really good at image manipulation. I was able to easily remove the background of a picture and substitute it for my own background. Alas, no longer. Thanks Tina. All the very best, John.

Tina, thank you for your response. Robomaster can't be the problem as I already have V.5.10. I can't open them in Silhouette either. I am sure the problem arose after updating Irfanview to V.4.3 but how can I stop every downloaded file from opening in Irfanview? I used to be able to download a file and open it without any trouble. Now not only can I not do that but all of my previously downloaded GSD files won't open either. The only GSD files that I can open immediately are the ones within the Robomaster Programme (only about 20) but the bulk of them (c.150) are in folders within Downloads. I have succeeded in opening a couple by extracting them to the Desktop and then dragging them into Silhouette and then saving them there but it is a very long winded process and will take me hours, if not days, to do all of them by that route. When I click 'Open With' the only options which come up are Robomaster and Irfanview. If I then click for more programmes Silhouette isn't there, even though it is on the Desktop. Oh wo is me! Oh to be more computerate! I'd like to be making cards not racking my brains (or should that be brain!) and getting mouse strain. Living in hope that someone can solve my problem.
Shirley.

I don't know if this will help but if the program that you want to open a file with does not come up automatically, go to the folder you have them in. Left click once to highlight the item then right click it and you should get an 'open with' option. You then should be able to choose which ever program you want to open it....fingers crossed!!!!

Hi Shirley

I think that what's happened is that, when you install, or install an upgrade, of most graphics or image viewing software, the software will realise that there are some image file types on your computer that's not associated with the software (associated means - set so that any time the file type is double clicked it opens automatically in that software). When a software that can open graphics files sees that you have such files it will ask whether you want to associate all graphics files with the software. IrfanView does this, but I think some versions had the tick in the box already, so if you didn't untick as you were clicking through the boxes that come up during installation then the computer now has it set that all files with a graphic content are to be opened in IrfanView - but, although there's a graphic content to the .gsd files, there isn't a plug-in in IrfanView to be able to successfully open them.

Ann is right, you should be able to re-associate the .gsd file type with the correct software, ROBOMaster, by going to the file, right clicking and selecting "Open With". You should find the ROBOMaster software listed there, but, you are right when you said this list doesn't contain the Silhouette Studio software. It doesn't even appear if you click the down arrows by the title "Other Software" . So, having made sure that you have a tick in the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" you'll need to click the "Browse" button and go and look for the software yourself if you want to associate .gsd files with Silhouette Studio rather than ROBOMaster. You'll normally be taken to the "Programs" folder on your computer so you'll just need to scroll to find the folder for the correct software. Go into the software's folder and click on the software itself. You should then find that all .gsd files on your computer open with that software in future.

The way to open the files without re-associating to the correct software is to first open the software and then go to File, Open, make sure the File Type is set to .gsd, then browse to the right folder and open the file.

Hope this helps.

GG
