Smile New To Craft Designing

Hi I was wondering if you could help. I am new to craft designing although I have made up many decoupage and pyramage toppers over the last few years. I was wondering what is the best programme to use for making decoupage of my own using clip arts. I would like to become a designer but am not sure how too. Hope you can advise thankyou Michelle

In my personal opinion, Adobe Photoshop is the best, but it is quite expensive.

I think some designers use Microsoft Publisher??

I use paint shop pro xi but I have also just got photshop elements 7 which I havent had a chance to play with yet.

Just remember that any images you use must be either public domain, royalty free or copyright free or if you use someones graphics ensure it is with the permission and if you do and they require credit on the sheet please do this.

Also remember that some graphics companys require you to pay for a commercial licence.

Good luck

Amanda

I am using photoshop 7. I started on photoshop elements 6, which is cheaper and probably easier to use for a beginner, though obviously has less features.

Good advice from Amanda, copyright is the main thing to be concerned about when selling your designs. Always make sure you know who the artist of the image is, if required purchase the appropriate license and also check with the artist that you can actually use the graphics in a commercial use for commercial use way. That means the artist does actually allow your customer to then sell the cards with the sheets you've made.
Vintage images are slightly different, in that you may not be able to identify the artist, so always purchase from a reliable source that give clear TOU for the images.

I also only purchase high resolution images, usually 300dpi or higher, so that I know my sheets will produce a good quality print.

Hi Michelle,

I use Photoshop CS2, which as Sarah said is expensive but is the best (once you get to grips with how to use it! lol)

I started by using a freebie (Serif Drawplus) that came on a Computer mag and had some great results with that.

Well I use paint shop pro X2 and if you have a look at a site called TrialPay: Online Payment and Promotions Platform you may find you can get it very cheap for completing an offer. I now also have photoshop CS4 which is mega expensive and in the process of starting to learn that but have a long way to go. I do love PSP very easy to learn

Cheers
Rhonda

ooOOoooo lucky you Rhonda having CS4!! .............. I can't justify upgrading yet but I'd love to try out all the new features that have appeared since CS2 ............ especially Image Warp! Photoshop isn't that hard to learn ........ it's really just a matter of perseverance. Let me know if there's anything I can help with as I've used Photoshop for a long time now and draw all my own graphics with it ..... but I'm sure you'll soon get the hang of it and be using it to make some more great sheets!!

Yes I am very lucky to have CS4 its not what you know but who you know. I just have to find the time but I will be asking everyone and anyone. The friend who installed it has shown me a couple of things and cant wait to get into it more. Its just hard at the moment as I have just started working full time for the 1st time in nearly 4 years. Thank you so much for your offer.

cheers
Rhonda
