Best glues to use for anything?

Hi again
Should have asked this last night with the ribbon glue thread. Haven't been cardmaking long, so decided to try all the different glues and tapes, to see which worked best. Made my daughter a birthday card, with panels and ribbon etc; got up the following morning, and all the bits were on the floor. So obviously some dst is better than others, and some glue the same. Can anyone recommend from experience. It would be nice to collate all th info. to save people doing what I did. Maybe I could put it into a chart format, with a link. Hoping to draw on all your experience. Many thanks as always. Love to all.

I have found "Tombow" multi liquid glue form Stampin Up to be the best all around glue. You don't need very much to hold anything. It's great for paper!

I was using double sided tape for most things until I found this glue. Just a little bit and it doesn't make a mess of your paper. Lots of glues have too much water and they make your paper wet and icky. I use just a tiny bit all the way around my paper, but you actually just need a few drops. On a rectangle, you could use 6 small dots and it will hold perfectly.

I'm talking card making. Attaching one layer to the next. Some craft stores also sell it

For ribbon, I usually use the super sticky double sided tape. It's clear and usually comes on a red backing. I also like the new BCE tape which is very sticky, but I must admit I haven't tried it with ribbon yet.

If I could only have one glue, to do all things with, then it would have to be the Pinflair Glue Gel. Put down thinly it can be used for flat glueing matting and layering pieces. It is totally clear and using the syringe means that you can have acurate glueing. It is an excellent replacement for Silicone glue for raised layers and attaching decoupage enabling layers to be shaped and glued exactly where I want them, plus - no odour. It works for rough surfaces such as attaching things to glitter or very textured cards. It can be used to attach gems and other embelishments to cards. Being a gel it isn't a realy wet glue so doesn't dampen paper. A similar glue is the Collall Glue Gel but I found that had a slightly different consistency I think.

Of course, I'm not stuck with having to choose one glue for everything so I've got glue tape pen runners for quickly attaching paper to paper, finger lift double sided tape (I have problems getting the backs of most double sided tape, due to my dexterity problems, so prefer the finter lift type), the stronger red backed double sided tape or the BCE tape already mentioned when a stronger hold is needed, Pinflair or Collall Photo glue (depending which I got hold of last) for attaching flat layers when I want a bit of movement to position things correctly, and even differing depths of double sided foam tape for matting and layering where I want some depth, or for things like pyramage where I want an even depth between layers. I've even got Bookbinding glue which I find good for sticking sides of boxes together or attaching fabric to cards. Plus a few other glue types for other specific uses, such as temprorary spray glue for rejuvinating the cutting mat for my CraftROBO.

Bet you didn't think that there were quite so many options did you.

I use double sided tape for most things as I find that it doesn't show through which glue sometimes does. I use PVA glue when I need it for heavier stuff & I have some pinflair too which i use for decoupage stuff, although I do use foam pads for this too. And lastly I have some easy lift when making envelopes to make it easier for whoever needs it.

Thank you again for all your replies. And guess what Gwyneth, I've got a drawer full of all the stuff you've got! and I absolutely Love the Pinflair Glue Gel. My big issue was with double sided tape, some are obviously a lot better than others, and it was sorting out which ones worked. I now have the b-c-e ones, and they seem pretty good. The other thing that I didn't realise was- I used tacky glue(pva) to layer card with, and it all warped! and ruined it. So that was when I started using dst, and came unstuck (sorry!) Another couple of questions, hope you don't mind. What is bookbinding glue, what is the difference with it, and what would I use Spray Mount for? And Janet, has the tape with the red backing got a name/manufacturer, or is there more than one ? Many thanks as always.x

Warping is one reason I rarely use PVA glue any more. The difference in quality and water content from one PVA glue to the next can be wide.

The Book Binding Glue is another glue from Pinflair - here - I think its origins are in the glue used by book binders to put fabric spines to books but am not sure about that. Where ever its origins are it is a very think white glue that dries clear and very little is needed to have a strong bond. I've used it when attaching material/fabric panels to card. (Projects such as described here where you take panels of fabric which are glued onto hardboard squares before mounting onto card fronts.)

The double sided tape that's very strong and backed with a red backing can be seen here, but it is available from many places.

Spray glue comes in two types - permanent and temporary adhesive. The temporary type can be used anywhere where you don't want something to be stuck permanently in place. I've used it on the back of unmounted rubber stamps to stick them to rockablocks as well as refreshing the tack on cutting mats for my CraftROBO and on the back of "masks" created to go over a stamped image for overstamping with another stamp that's to appear in the background. The permanent one can be used on anything you want to be stuck down permanently. I don't go mad using these spray glues because of the carier solvant and the risk of getting the spray over things I don't want permanently stuck. The permanent spray is good for giving a quick blast to the back of a large area that is to be attached to something else and it doesn't usually get the paper wet so doesn't cause lots of warping. I got this pack here - good thing it includes a can of the glue remover that helps clean up when glue has got on surfaces it shouldn't have.

Did I answer all your queries? Lost track now but I'm sure you'll ask again if I've missed anything or you think of something else you want to know.
