Shape Cutting

Do any of you use shape cutters for doing aperture cards & cutting out shapes for matting?

I've been looking at the xcut shape cutter gift set which sells for around £25.00 but as I don't know anyone who has this I don't know whether to take the plunge. Also can you buy new blades without having to replace everything?

Maybe you all know of something better?
Is this something the robo can do?
If so, then maybe I should save up for one of those although I don't know which model would be best.

Hi Karen

I don't have the XCut shape cutter. I have a Fiskars Shapecutter and several templates which I occasionally get out if I want the shapes I've got on the templates. The ShapeCutter itself has easy to replace blades and there are a wide variety of template shapes available. Do a search on eBay for "fiskars shape cutter" and you'll see what's available. And then there's the die-cutting machines that can cut mats as well and aperatures, but again, like with Fiskars and XCut templages you are stuck with the exact shapes and sizes of dies that you have.

But the CraftROBO is very versatile. I'm not tied to shapes from templates. I can get aperture cutting files of so many different styles, including very fancy ones. I can even make simple shaped ones myself quickly and easily, ad make cutting files for matting and layering pieces in exactly the size I want.

The CraftROBO Lite can cut, but the CraftROBO 330 (now called CraftROBO Silhouette SD) can use Print & Cut files. The files are printed off from within the software that comes with the CraftROBO and the designs have have Registration Marks printed out on them so that when the printed sheet is put into the CraftROBO the Robo's "eye" reads the marks and knows exactly wher to put the cut lines. Of course, this CraftROBO can cut out any ordinary file just like the CraftROBO Lite can.

It's all down to cost and the end result you want.
