The little sticky foam pads I find work very well.

I use sticky dots which come on a clear plastic roll.
Just cut the piece of plastic off, press it on to the spot you want, lift the plastic off, then stick your bow on.
Works for me everytime and very clean to use with no waste.

Yep I use a glue gun too. I tried double-sided tape but the bows fell off after a short while

You can get anitas tacky glue from just about any art/craft shop. But I must admit the glue dots should work pretty well. You can get some that are tiny.

I bought myself some Tacky glue from Hobbycraft the other week, has a bright yellow top and label. It is great as the tip never seems to block and the nozzle is very small. It also sticks well, but not sure about bows. I usually use DST or even glue dots but have also used wet glue. It really depends on how secure I want them. I always place the glue on the ribbon first and not the card otherwise you get glue squeezing out everywhere but you need to hold it on for a while.

I used UHU quite a lot in my woodwork and got excellent results. Never thought of using it for cards!.
