Wow, Carol, that lot was interesting. I am going to print that! One thing that I would like to ask you ladies is. When I download an image, quite often it is in a rectangular shaped border. If I try to import this to the Silhouette and try to draw the cutlines, the whole rectangle goes black on me and there is no signs of any cutlines, or image. Is there a way to avoid this and just get the outline of the image? I have downloaded some really good silhouettes that I wanted to foil and I just get the rectangle when I try to cut!
Thanks to all of you, take care and please keep smiling, (especially when you get these ridiculous questions from yours truly). John.

If you do try foiling with an iron I think you should ask the ladies about protecting your Iron with paper. With the foiling machine you place the foil on the image and then place them between two sheets of paper. You then put the sandwich through the machine. I believe this is to prevent the foil etc. sticking to the rollers. The thickness of the covering sheets has to be taken into consideration when setting the temperature. Obviously if the cover sheets are thick card then the temperature needs to be set higher to allow for the thickness. The temperatures used by the foil machine are from 165 degs. to 185. Take care, John.

Hello Karen, nice to be in touch with you again. I am searching the net to find the cheapest site. At present I have paid £10.50 for sheets 8 ins X 15 mtrs. it is very, very thin, just like a film really. that means that the rolls, when you get them look very very small! 15 Mtrs. is quite a length. Tina sells it on her website, but I have not checked the price yet. If I do find a relatively cheap supplier I will let you know. Take care, Kren and keep smiling, John.

Thanks for your sentiments, Belinda. And yes we are both being looked after, very well. I hope you do get one and soon. Send a letter to Father Christmas! That might work. Or don't you believe in him? If you don't believe in him, you know, he won't call on you. If he does he just puts cinders in your Christmas stocking. My children swore for years that they believed in him - they never got cinders in their stockings. They just weren't taking any chances. lol lol.

I have had lovely foils from Tonertex and these don't need a sheet on top of them. Tonertex do (or did as I've not checked their website recently) sell a foiling wand which looks a bit like a soldering iron with what looks like a small iron (approx 1 1/2" sq). I started foiling with this before trying the laminator method and I much prefer using the laminator as I found the results to be much better.
I don't know that I'd recommend foiling with a domestic iron though.
I'm sorry John but I can't help with your cutting machine thigy questions as I don't have one

| Hi John
Are you using Sihouette Studio or RoboMaster software? I have RM, but I have never experienced this, I have just tried to import an image with a rectangle border around it but it worked ok. Unfortunately I don't know anything about Silhouette Studio. Sorry not to be able to help. Is there any way you can crop the image so the rectangular border isn't around it and then import it? Best wishes Kim

| I recently got a new laser printer (an OKI) which does use toner for all the colours. My last one was a Xerox and that used solid wax inks so I have no ides if they would work with foil or not so if anyone is thinking of buying a laser printer it's worth checking out before handing over hard earned cash. I do know we couldn't laminate anything done with the old printer because being actually melted wax, as soon as it went through the laminator the wax melted again - looked a real mess!

Thanks again to all those who have supplied info. re foiling. I tried it with my iron (protecting with thin paper on top of the foil) on the silk setting and it worked but put the foil on some areas of the background as well. Next I tried with the synthetic setting and that was better but still put bits of foil where I didn't want them, and it wrinkled the foil badly. I had given the print a good blow to remove any surplus toner so I don't think it was that. Perhaps I should try it at a higher heat. Haven't tried doing it on a laminator yet but wonder if it needs doing immediately i.e. whilest the toner is fresh, or is it OK later? In the meantime I am researching laminators and wonder what the advantage of 4 rollers as opposed to 2 is - does anyone know? Want to get the best machine for the job (don't actually need lamination) so that I don't waste any more money!
