problems with glue

I recently made Julie Hill's cards, the ones with the attached boxes on the inside that fold into a nice little gift box. Well...I glued the boxes onto the inside of the card using Elmer's Craft glue....BIG MISTAKE...the card seems to have gotten damp with the glue and the outside now is all wavy and bumpy....I was careful not to use too much.......All that time put into the card to have this happen...so frustrating...

What do you all use when you need a strong adhesive...the double sided tape is not strong enough to hold the boxes onto the card....HELP!!! I don't want this to happen again......What a waste...

Hi Claudette.I use pinflair glue gel as that does not bucke the card and is as strong as an ox.Hope this helps.

PS I also use hobbycrafts own make pva as long as you don't use too much that works also.

I use dst - the clear tape that has the red plastic peel off stuff, which seems to work for me. I have given up on the regular dst, it's just not strong enough and comes unstuck easily. May be it dries out.

If I need to use a glue, to allow for slipping the item into place, I'll use Pinflair Glue Gel, it's created to give dimension instead of using silicone glue, but it can be used as a flat glue as well. Pinflair also have a very good glue called a Bookbinding Glue, which is great for attaching card or paper together. As far as Double Sided Tape is concerned - I use the fingerlift tape for attaching items to cards but for anything that involves construction of boxes I've got two different types (in several widths) the strong one with the red backing that's already been mentioned, and one called Template tape. If your card is getting "wavy and bumpy" I'd check that you are using a good enough quality and weight of cardstock for a card that has dimension and construction involved. If you were careful to just use a little glue and it's still worked it's way through the card then maybe using different base card would help as well.

Yes, Elmers glue and other 'liquid' glues do not work well on cards. I found the red double-sided tape at Hobby Lobby and Michaels, so Im sure some of the other craft shops carry it as well. I really like the pinflair glue the ladies above mention, but have not found it in the shops here. I ordered it from Joanna Sheen (I think - free postage) and received it within a couple of weeks. The Scotch Advanced Tape Gliders (ATG) work pretty well and are worth the investment if you plan to make a lot of cards or scrapbooking. You can get those at Hobby Lobby and Michaels as well - often with a 40% off coupon.

I use Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive from 3M. It is quick-dry as its name indicates, so it does not have a chance to soak through the card like most glues. I have not made any boxes, so I don't know if dst is strong enough to hold or not. I use Sookwang dst that I purchase online from www.7kidscollegefund.com. It holds very well, in fact some times it holds too well too quick so I have to be very careful when laying the item down.

thanks for all the tips

All the advice you gave is so much appreciated. I wish I could get the pinflair here in the U.S. but I guess I will have to order and have it shipped. I will try the red double sided sticky tape.

Someone mentioned the card stock might be an issue but I use 110 lb card stock...

I just hate it when I make a card and then ruin it.....Aarrgghh...

Thanks again...

Hi Claudette,

I know what you mean, I have ruined countless projects by having to experiment with the right materials. It can be very frustrating! I agree with Jan - I use permanent double sided tape. There is no budging that trust me! the only problem is that is is very unforgiving if you place something incorrectly - I have found out the hard way!

Anyway, I hope you find something that works well for you.

Not sure if you have the same stuff in the US but here I find that the DS tape that has the red plastic backing is much more 'heavy duty' than one with a white paper one.
