| Printing Sheets Questions
I am new here at CUP, but am already addicted. I purchased eight cards and have made up several. I see a problem arising soon with the cost of purchasing ink for my printer. I am American and currently have a HP printer that sucks alot of ink. Do any of you have reccomendations on printers that are cheaper to print with, but produce great printed sheets?

I have a Canon MG6150 which is great and reasonable for ink too and I also use an Epson P50 which is great too.
I always print at text quality. Its really all you need to be honest.
For paper, I buy 120 gsm and 160 gsm from stationary company in reams as it works out alot cheaper than buying expensive paper.
Hope this helps and welcome to the site.

I also have a HP printer. I only use HP inks in it, but buy the XL sized cartridges - a little more expensive than the ordinary sized ones but a lot more ink in them. I also print on ordinary settings for most of my cardmaking and papercraft work. No need to use the settings that use the most ink for most things. Experimenting with different paper/cardstock should find you something that looks good even on settings that use less ink. Super Smooth or paper/card that's sold as "decoupage" paper has quite often got such a tight finish that the ink doesn't soak into it, so it gives a brighter finish on the surface. GG

I have an HP Photosmart Plus B209 a-m printer. I use only HP inks, but I also get an employee discount with HP through my employer so the cost is lower than through places like Wal-mart or Target. However, I believe that the normal price through HP directly is cheaper than these stores. I find I get quite a few cards with this printer. I personally like the higher settings, but you may want to try some of the tips provided by others. I usually use photo paper because I like the brighter colors, but it does add to the cost. I have not found anywhere in the US so far some of the papers that are suggested by our European friends. Good luck with your printing issues.

I have an A3 Epson and go through ink like nothing on earth. I have now started using compatible ink which is far cheaper than the original. The Epson ink for my printer cost approx £14/£15 per colour and I need 6 colours. The compatible ink cost £1.59 per colour, so it is far cheaper. The paper I use is coated matt or gloss which I would imagine you can get from Walmart. We have a shop here called Asda which was taken over by Walmart a few years ago. I print on draft also. It does not make much difference to the colour. As some of the others have said the colours are very bright on coated stock. You can buy the paper fairly cheaply if you look around.

Hi. I have the Epson P50, which my wife, Norma bought me for a Christmas Present. She also bought me a CIS, (Continuous Ink System), wich supposed to cost the equivelent of £0.40p per cartridge. I have yet to set my CIS up yet because I have many compatible cartridges to use up first. Diane Scotland put me onto Disk Depot for the cheapest compatible cartridges, 60 Cartridges for £42.00 and the cheapest Photo paper. For cheap card in bulk I was directed to Paper Mill direct, by Karen Cogan. A Mega Box works out very cheap and you choose about five different types/grades/colours of card in the one box. Post free over £30.00! A real bargain!
Both these sites are well worth looking at.

Another alternative is to buy a colour laser printer. They are majorly cheap to what they were even a couple of years ago.
There are a few restrictions on the types of paper you can use (ie inkjet photo glossy paper you cant use in it) and some wont print heavy board....although I print 200gsm no problems in our Samsung.
But the colours are great, the colours dont run, and the toners last for ages. We've just replaced the toners in our Samsung and we've had that for 3 years.
So something to look into possibly.
