new silhouette owner-Pulling hair out

I just got the new silhouette cameo. I plugged it in today and tried to cut some files of regular decoupage cards.....I read the instruction manual under the print and cut feature. I also used the trace feature so that I could cut out cards I manually cut before....

I have wasted so much ink, paper and time.....I am so frustrated that I think I may have a defective machine...

When I use the trace option, I use the "trace outer edge" Well, the machine was cutting every single small detail of the image...not just the outline.....and, when the paper came out, it didn't cut through the paper...and I had the blade setting on 3 as recommended by the software..

Can any one tell me what the heck I am doing wrong....the manual for this is pretty useless.....HELP!!!! thanks

Claudette

I had the same sort of problem when I tried to use the trace feature for the first time - I was just about ready to throw the whole thing out the window because I couldn't get it to do what I had basically bought the machine for. Now I love my baby!

Other people may have other ways, but for me, I find the best way to do it is to set the scale down as low as possible,to pick up as much edge detail as possible. Then usually I make sure the high and low pass boxes are unticked, and finally I adjust the threshold until the whole of the shape that you want to trace is filled with solid yellow. If you go too far the entire selection will go yellow but if you play with the settings you should see what I mean.

I have the Silhouette SD, so I'm not entirely sure how they have changed the cutting settings but I imagine you still have to set the speed and thickness settings in the program before you send to the cutter.

I hope that is of some help to you until someone with a cameo can confirm about the cutting.

Hi

I had this problem too, (amongst many) and you have to play with the high and low pass options, but it did and didn't work and still lost large clumps of hair. Software is basic to say the least and even on my high end pc just seems slow and unresponsive.

I found this site so am just off to post my main query to see what shows up.

But saying that so far not impressed with my silhouette cameo, and at this moment in time consider it about as useful as that stuff you put in bags when out walking ya dog.

Whats the problem with your machine? can I help you at all?.... Print and cut need patients even with the new machine but it can be done and is done by many everyday... The studio software is not basic compared to robo master which is what was packaged with the sd and craftrobo....

If you give me some clues as to what you need help with I will do my very best to help you..

It is a pretty steep learning curve but is is so definitely worth the effort.

I would be lying if I said when I first had my SD there weren't a couple of times that I wanted to through the whole thing out of the window but after a week or so of trying out different settings, different weights of card, everything very quickly fell into place.

I so would not be without my machine now. Without doubt its one of the best investments I ever made.
