My Findings regards the New Cameo Blade system

I have noticed a few issues people are having regards the New Ratchet system blade for the Cameo Machine, Having had a few issues myself I set myself a few tests so I could use my blade with the bare minimum of debris getting inside the new holder.

Having used my Cameo to it's full potential I did find that card pieces were entering the holder and could become impact so tight that they couldn't be fully removed without damaging the blade itself which in the long run would not be very helpful in the working of the machine.

I cut all sorts of card day in day out many with lots of fibers that the older CraftROBO just couldn't cope with, So I did a few tests and have solved the issue for myself.

Place the card of your choice into your machine, on setting your blade up for cutting I now increase the setting of the blade by one number and reduce the cutting pressure of the blade, this will take the nose cone of the blade away from the card slightly more than it should be.... stopping most of the bits/fibers from entering the holder.. You will still need to remove the holder and check for odd pieces but this should be now less work for you.

So if you are cutting normally on blade setting 4 then take the setting to 5 and make sure you adjust the cutting thickness to what it would have been on blade setting 4...

I do hope this little piece of information is helpful to some of you at least.

If I can help any further please don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks Tina. I haven't got the Cameo, but I have got the new holder and the small blades. I notice that the small blades for the new holder can be bought at different angles of cut, i.e. 40 degrees, 60 degrees etc.. According to what thickness of cared you intend to cut. Do you have a recommendation for a general purpose angle of cut?
Cheers, Tina. Take care, John.
PS. I am finding the new holder/blades are giving me a better cut!

Thanks Tina! will try this when I get my new blade.
Disaster struck yesterday when I was cutting designs out on my Cameo and I noticed that it had only cut half the design out,the tip of the blade had broke off.
I've had my Robolite for over 2years now and have only replaced the blade once. I've sent it back to Graphtec this morning for them to check it.

Sitting in the corner and hiding.......

After I changed over to the new type of blade I did take your advice about not pushing the machine too much with heavier card but I did find that I was getting better results by upping the number on the blade and lowering the pressure, but I didn't say too much about it because I knew I wasn't supposed to do it that way!!!!!!

Hi Tina,
Thanks for this useful bit of info as I've unpacked installed and played a little tonight with
partial success but still not quite got it right yet.
I buy most of my card from Papermill Direct so if I remember correctly most of it is around 240gsm.
I tried cutting with the blade on 3 but didn't alter the pressure, where is this setting as I can only see speed and thickness. What would you recommend it be set to?
Also do I need to double cut things?

No doubt this will be the first of many questions from me over the next few weeks.

Papermill card is really to fiberous for the blade Karen, The blade is very intricate and even with the older blades which are made from the same material they wouldn't cut this card fully and often blunted the blades..

You need to go to where the cutting of the page comes up there you can change the settings for cutting pressure..

Tina, Thanks for letting me know about the papermill card.

If anyone can recommend where else to purchase card that I can use in the Cameo I'd much appreciate it?

The white card I've got is from Carols Crafts and is also 240gsm.
I've also got some glossy Tesco photo paper 190gsm & 250gsm are these OK to use? Although once I've used this up I'll be trying the photo paper that's been sold on CUP.

I also use some plain white 190gsm paper that I got at Staples & some scrap-booking papers that seem about the same weight (non are textured).

I always use Conqueror Concept card.. 250 gsm and 350 gsm on all my machines, ( which I am a reseller for) the card is pearlescent and beautiful but obviously not to be wasted...I can't post here the link but if you pm me I'd be happy to help you with buying it.... Also I have trialed the CRAFTY-BOB card and that cut really well too...
