Bows

Hi all. I have a bow maker and am slowly getting the hang of it although I would love to make those "chocolate box" bows you see a lot of on cards these days if anyone knows what I mean. They are the kind of bows that seem flat and perfect.

Hope someone can help.

Many thanks

I have a bowmaker and rarely use it. I tend to hand tie bows. For a flat bow though I use two bits of ribbon.

Take a bit long enough to make the finished size of bow you want and take another smaller bit just slightly larger than double the width of the ribbon. Take the larger bit and stick the two ends together (the stuck end will be hidden when you attach to card. Take the smaller bit and wrap round the centre part of the large loop you have made and stick at the back. You will now have two bow loops and the divider in the middle et voila you have a bow. Hope this makes sense. (I could do one on a cup tv episode I have coming up in a couple of weeks).

Amanda

Thanks Amanda, if you could put it on cup tv that would be great, I can follow things better if I am shown but before anyone says anything you're instructions are great. Thanks x

Oh don't worry Tracey. It is a known fact that some people learn through seeing something, some through hearing things and some best through doing something . Often we use a mixture of all three. You are obviously a visual learner and that is perfectly ok.

I will get a bow made up in the next couple of days and post a pic on this thread so you get the idea.

I have a bow maker too, and it's taken me a while to master it. I've found that organza ribbon or narrow silk ribbon works best. Its no good for wide satin ribbon, not that I can do anyway.

I sometimes add ribbon to a card - don't stick it down but take it round a matting layer [so you hide the ends] and then make a fake bow by wrapping another piece of ribbon round the loose ribbon and tie a knot. Got that from Nancy Watt on C&C - she was always doing it that way.

Looking forward to seeing Amanda's demonstration when she gets time to do it.
