Organising my cards

Hi all. I just thought I would put out a few feelers to see what other crafters do with regard to storing and organising your finished cards.

I have some lovely boxes which I purchased from Store Twenty One, very similar to stationery boxes you can get from Tesco and the like and one box is for everyday cards and the other for Christmas.

I just wanted to ask how other crafters organise them if anyone uses such boxes? Do you use divider cards etc. etc. I have my cards in cello bags so they don't get dirty but they are just sitting in my box looking a bit forgotten.

Sorry in advance if this is a silly question but I would be interested to know what other crafters do.

Many thanks

No question is silly Tracey....sometimes we never look for the obvious and over complicate things....hence mess I never have many to store as i have an outlet but if i am lucky then any i do have go in a cardboard box, already bagged and tagged in order birthday, anni, get well etc this is mainly for neighbours and friends for when i donīt get time to make a special one....any system that works for you is always a good one....you are in clerical work so you have an advantage on some of us ....you are probably quiet organised

Hi Lorraine, thanks for the feedback. Believe it or not I am more organised at work than I am at home but I am getting better, going to have a good clear out of old paperwork very soon!

Thanks again for replying and by the way your instructions for the teardrop card was excellent. The first attempt I got completely wrong but the second attempt was brilliant. I will be uploading it very soon. Will pm you when I do xx

Hi Tracey,

I use the see through plastic storage boxes to store my cards. I have over 6100 on the site but a bit less at home now as I have sold some and I give a lot away.

I label the boxes so that I can find what I want easily. If I have a lot of cards with maybe only one or two per category I just put them into one box but still label the box so I know where they are.

I am going to go through all my cards soon and the older cards I will hand into charity shops to make room for more. Yes I am still making cards. It is addictive right enough.

I have taken over my daughter's bedroom. Luckily she lives in Brazil so not at home. ;o))

Happy crafting.

Margaret

Wow that is a lot of cards Margaret. Well done for winning Crafter of the Year, very well deserved. How do you find the time to make cards so quickly? If I make one a week I'm chuffed.

I am like a lot of the other ladies, I keep mine in the cellophane so that you can actually open them and see the insert as well as I often think that is another lovely part of the card. I then put them all in boxes for each category i.e. female, male, children, babies, wedding, anniversaries, christmas, get well, retirement, thank you etc. These are all ready then if I do any shows as well as they are nice flocked boxes so look pretty for display purposes also. As other ladies have said whatever works for you is good. Good luck with your organising.

Where do you all get your boxes from? I bought a lovely butterfly box from Tesco, unfortunately I only bought one and guess what? they have stopped selling them now. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and like everything the same but trying to find boxes the same size and style is becoming a bit of a chore.

I reckon the only way to get matching boxes is to save up and buy them all at the same time.

I am quite lucky that our local supermarket sells the same kind of boxes in various colours and sizes so I can pick and choose the colours which I then use to identify the contents.

Good luck finding what you want.

Hi Joan

You have just reminded me to buy some A4 cellophane bags so that I too can display the cards that have matching inserts. I have been photographing the inserts and then printing out small photos on paper and inserting them into the bags so people can see the inserts. But this takes time and ink so I think larger bags would be the best solution.

Better go and do the order now before I forget.
