Pro markers and digi stamps

Hi

I have occasionally stamped with permament ink and watercoloured the image or used gels pens with water to colour them. However with digi stamps I can't as the printer ink isn't waterproof at all. I don't like using gel pens 'neat' as I cant get the right finish. Does anyone out there use Promarkers to do the same thing? Do they cause the ink to run.
I don't want to buy them and find out they don't do the job. Is there anything else out there that would do a similar thing?

Emma

There is special paper you can get for digi-stamps, it stops the printer ink from drying to quick so you can use embossing powder. I know you can get it from Create and Craft.
the other option is to colour wash your card and print over it .
I hope this helps you

hi,if u r talking about meltdust paper,i dont think it is any good for water colouring, because if has a glossy coating, which is y the ink stays wet longer.
getting back to the original question,i have used digi stamps with pro markers.i find it is best to print onto supersmooth card stock,as the pro markers do bleed into normal paper.xxxx

Gosh I have never had any problems with printer ink running, not since the days of the first HP printer way back in the early 1990's. I've used proper HP's, then refilled them myself, and I've used cartridges from Cartridge World. None of them have ever bled with watercolour paints, which I use a great deal, both pencils, crayons, and tube paint. I've also used my Promarker pens without any problems, though I do tend to print onto decent card of at least 200 gsm as the Promarker's themselves do bleed through to the back of the card. I've also had a nice effect using watercolour paper for printing onto.

What make of printer do you have?

Hi Emma, I use pro markers with digi stamps all the time. I'm not sure if you were asking if anyone as tried to watercolour with Pro markers are not? I'm not sure you can, as promarkers are alcohol based, but I've never tried it so you might be able to.
If you were asking " do they cause the printer ink to bleed on their own. Then the answer is yes! if you don't use the right card in your printer. I use a bright white coated from Ryman or a colour loc 160gsm white from Staples and they never bleed.
Also when you print out your digi stamps, try to leave them for an hour or so, just to make sure the ink has dried before colouring them in.
Hope this helps.

Hi Emma, It sounds like it could be the paper you are using in the printer. The best card/paper to use for your printer and promarkers is Bits & Pieces (Southfield). It is a smooth white stock. The promarkers do not run but the colour does bleed into the back of the card. The only paper that will stop this happening is Bleedproof paper which designers use. It is not used for printing. Also if you use the promarkers on the Southfield stock you get a really even colour on your page. With coated papers you don't get that even finish. You know that you can buy just one pen and try it. Copic is also a company that does that type of pen. They are both alcohol based and can not be used as watercolours as they dry immediately. Hope this has helped.

I use Promarkers to colour everything! Once you've printed your image (I use either 160gsm smooth white card, 240gsm or 300gsm) leave it to dry for at least 12 hours if not 24 and then you should not have any problems in colouring them.

All my most recent cards in my cardmaker profile when using a digi stamp have been coloured using Promarkers.

Hope this helps!

Hi

I have used the Promarker Aquas which are a watercolour promarker. I also use promarkers & Copics. I use a Lexmark printer & Tesco Finest Paper. It is very rare I get a colour bleed unless there is a really heavy amount of black. I loaded up 2 digistamps in my gallery on the main site last night if you want to check out the results.

I haven't found any problems using my promarkers with printed images. I've also used them with stamped images using ordinary dye ink to stamp with. I've also had success with them when combining them with stamped images using ordinary brush markers to colour the stamps.

I love my promarkers!

Heat - Gun to 'set' digital stamp print

Altough I have not tried it myself yet - I was recently told if you use your heat-gun on the printed image it sort of 'sets' the image so it should not bleed when you colour / watercolur it.

If you try it let me know how you get on

(currently cannot find my heat-gun I think its burried in my spare bedroom /craft room which is currently a dumping ground as only have half a kitchen at moment)

regards

Donna
