Diane Scotland has done some useful ones and you find them at the top of the list in the Newbie room. Just ask if you are unsure of something and someone will come to your aid.

Thanks ladies and I think you're right - eventually I will be whizzing around and thinking I'm the bees knees. Will browse around and see what you have all done.
Can I ask a really weird question here - does it matter that after buying some of the gorgeous designs I've found that I only want to use part of it and not all because I've come up with my own ideas instead?

That sounds good to me - use bits of sheets, mix and match sheets, add bits to sheets and then put your pictures up in the gallery so we can all see.
