| A big hello from the bedbound crafters
Hi There i,m Jo,
A huge hello from the bedbound crafters and a massive thanks to the 5 minute game last night won almost £30.00 you never guess where thats going to be spent on lol, i broke my spine hence being bedbound as i was a professional football coach for englands mens team with sven at the time, i,m also the mother of football having 4 kids and doing al i did volountary for all our local disabled kids before this happened with my heart on my sleeve, I wanted to give back to football what football had done for my son stephen who suffers from cerebral palsy and he wanted flat feet and straight legs so he could kicka ball after the england team supporting him along the way with extensive surgery on both legs it was the least i could do was to give back my time, everyone told me to slow down i was doing too much but they needed the help so i formed a league and club at charlton athletic that was 6 years ago, then one day snap, thats whre i took up card making i havnt been to use my hands that well since my lumar canal in my spinal cord causing fluid to constantley go to my pituritygland inmy brain which filled with tumors and has now packed up working, so its good days and bad days , so glad i found this site i seem to get my cards completed but not uploaded in time either too dark, shadow, so i get so disapointed especially when you go through so much cramp in your fingers to get the cards done feels like a waste of time, if anyone has any tips or tricks on how and where to take a good photo of a card as hubby has been doing it for me so far, i,m on a hospital air bed and can adjust to different angles, my bedroom is more like a crafters den i,m not joking i have the cricut and sillouhette not quite figured out the sillouhette yet so any advice would be really grateful, well thats me jo I am so lucky to have found this site and the staff have been brilliant in the office especially rob last night to call me and confirm i had won and it was,nt a hoax ITS FOR REAL so dont forget to take a look up on the left hand side it might be the change in luck i needed, hugs |

Hi Jo!!
Welcome to CUP - hopefully it will inspire you with the choice of card making ideas (the most fab galleries showing you all the artwork everyone has put in!) and the HUGE selection of goodies to play with!! Let alone an amazingly friendly and helpful forum plus (as you have just found out!!) a great choice of games to play along to...and it's certainly not a hoax as I won the bingo almost immed I joined up!
Wowsa, so you coached the england footie team, how exciting!! You must tell us more! And it sounds like a wonderful family with a supportive hubby taking your pics for you!! Mine runs a mile when I mention the *craft* word!
My goodness, you have been through the wars, what a lot to cope with, you sound incredibly brave and upbeat, very humbling to read - we all feel that we have coped with much in our lives until we read of another story of how someone is dealing with what life has thrown at them - you sound a very strong lady and no doubt will certainly inspire us all on here!
Well, enjoy your new found crafting - CUP will take up more hours in the day than you can imagine, and I am sure will open up your world just that little bit more - we are all here to chat to any time of day or night and look forward to seeing your photos!! Enjoy perusing, there is much to look at and Diane Scotland (momma bear) is head honcho to ask for any help!!!!!

Hi there Joanna - what an inspiration you are and congrats for winning some cash on CUP. What I found in taking some photos was making sure that you have three pieces of white board (card stock), A4 size could help. I always take my photos where it is as light as possible - normally in my kitchen. I place one board flat down on the counter and the other standing up against something so it looks like an L shape. If I still see things in the background, then I place the 3rd board to block it off. Take a few photos though and then check which one has the most light on it. Hope this assists?
I know it's easier sad than done, but keep persevering on getting the cards photographed correctly. You are doing something you enjoy, so never see it as a waste of time even though it's gets frustrating when the photographs aren't right. Take care Rene

Hi Jo and welcome to CUP. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here as everyone is very friendly and helpful. Congrats on winning the 5 min game, I'm sure you'll have fun deciding what to spend it on!
The above advice re photos is all good. Like Rene, I also use pieces of A4 card in an L shape which I usually put on my laptop (one piece over the keys, the others in front of the screen) which I can then angle towards the light. I also use a photo editing programme (Google 'free photo editing' and take a look at a few to see which you like best). As well as being able to make the photo lighter, I also crop the image so that there is very little background showing, just the image of the card. Haven't had any problems getting my photos accepted since I started doing this. Hope this helps. xx

Hi Jo, you had very good luck with the 5min game and truly deserve it! I take my hat off to you! I "nearly" won about 35€(live in Spain),a couple of weeks ago!!! I agree with you that the CUP website is great, we're spoilt for choice, with all the talented designers and everyone on the forum is really friendly.
As for the photos,I had quite a few sent back to start with(too dark etc),had trouble with shadows and contrasts.
The suggestions you've been given have all worked for me.
I hadnt thought about a light box,though.
One other thing, sometimes Ive used a dark card background for a pale card,so it stands out more. If I come unstuck, I get one of my daughters to give a hand, but Im getting better at it as I go along.
I was wondering, does your son get involved with cardmaking? I've got a 25yr old son with Down Syndrome and congenital heart defect(operated on), who loves cutting out and at Christmas had a great time cutting and glueing cards. Unfortunately he also decided to remove all the labels from his clothes,LOL! Take care. Liz |
