I received a calendar from South Australia VIA AIRMAIL- the postage was A$4.70 = £3.28 approx. I posted a similar size calendar to the same place and the cost SURFACE MAIL was £2.28 = A$3.24. The cost via Airmail would have been £3.96, printed paper rate, letter rate would have been approx £6. The calendar still hasn't arrived and I mailed it on 28 September. Our mail isn't much of a "service" nowadays. I wonder how many will arrive in the "Sorry Bag".

It seems postage is about the same eveywhere. I didn't try any 8x8's, I hate to think how much they would be. I hand them to special people Thank you all for the input!

Hi Rae and everyone,

I have learned lessons of the saleability of cards, in relation to size and the amount of decoupage, the hard way.

When I first started selling to outside of the 'family and friends' circle, about 3 years ago, I had prepared many large cards and lots of decoupage on many sizes. Believe it or not, I still have some of those cards on my hands simply because of the likely postal cost which people are acutely aware of from here. I currently run a 'bargain box' reducing them to silly prices, simply to move them and recoup a little of the expenditure ... stock is money of course!

Nowadays, for those cards I wish to put up for sale, I ensure they are mostly C6 size and on the whole keep decoupage and embellishments to a minimum, using mostly 1mm foam. Sadly this does not allow for making outstandingly beautiful cards but customers are happier and more are sold this way. I do offer just a few of larger ones just for special occasions.

I do however, allow myself the pleasure of making up some of the gorgeous kits to use as 'show cards' which usually achieve their aim of drawing attention to my market stall resulting in people at least approaching and having a browse and maybe even buying one or two of the smaller ones - a method in my little bit of madness, lol.

I am also very lucky in that there is a member of the local post office staff here who is aware of the amount of post I send and receive and will only check the odd one or two of whatever I present him with and will charge what I can only describe as an 'average' cost which I am sure is favourable to me. What it is to have friends in high places, lol.

Hugs to you all

Thank you for your input Janet. My relatives and friends look forward to receiving different cards to the norm so that's why I've still sent them, but it is costly...I think that's why the girl at the Post Office stamped them all for me, she felt sorry for me that they were so costly

On the downside, one of my cousins who always wants a card with lots of decoupage phoned me the other night and asked would I be offended if she didn't send me a card this year because 55cents is just too expensive! Mine to her cost $1.20!
